Steps towards the implementation of the SSbD Framework in the development of novel plastic materials applied in the transport sector
Speaker: Socorro Vázquez-Campos (Leitat Technological Center)
Implementation of the SSbD principles, considering the recently published SSbD Framework by the European Commission1 , ensures that newly developed products, in any sector, integrate product performance with safety and sustainability dimensions (in all the product’s life cycle stages), from early innovation phases (design and ideation phase) through to the launch of the final product. In this presentation, the implementation of the SSbD concept will be demonstrated by the application of the different methodological steps for safety and sustainability assessments in the development of novel plastic materials for the transport sector. A special focus will be on the application of supporting methodologies to facilitate and promote the design, development, production and use of safer plastics as alternatives to replace some metallic-based parts currently used in the transport sector. This work was carried out in SURPASS (Project funded by the European Union under the Horizon Europe Work Programme Grant Agreement N 101057901).
